On this tour we experience the Giant of Provence in all its glory. 24 kilometres of cycling history etched in the roads that take you to its famous peak. You will be collected from your arrival point in Lyon and transferred to our first tour base in Provence which is a collection of beautiful private villas complete with swimming pool, and our own private chef.
Bedoin, Sault and Malaucène are within easy reach and host the official starts to the climb up the Giant of Provence, Mont Ventoux.
We believe that using Provence as the first stop in this tour not only gives riders time to experience the beautiful warm weather, lavender fields and Mediterranean feel of the region, it also provides much quieter roads to get used to riding in the tour group, on the other side of the road and on big mountain climbs.
To the south is the stunning Gorge de la Nesque and the village of Sault and to the east is the Plateau d’Albion which rises up to the second highest mountain in the region, the Montagne de Lure at 1800m. Between the Plateau d’Albion and the Baronnies to the north is the 1212m Col de l’Homme Mort – Dead Man’s Pass!
Contrary to popular belief Mont Ventoux does not stick up on its own in the middle of a flat plain. Although not on a scale like the Alps or the Pyrenees, the hills and mountains surrounding Mont Ventoux on all 4 sides are stunning and perfectly situated to offer fantastic loop rides of varying difficulty.
After 5 days in Provence we transition to the Alps and to our base in Allemont near Bourg d’Oisans, which has been used as a start town in the Tour de France on many occasions and is the perfect location for exploring some of the most famous climbs. The Tour de France also passes though our village again in 2017.
Our base in the heart of the French Alps presents world famous climbs from our doorstep, as well as sharing our local knowledge to take you off the beaten track and show you some hidden gems of this beautiful region that has been featured countless times in the Tour de France.
Unique Cycling Tours focus on small group travel to minimise disruption and maximise cycling time. Our choice of accommodation is comfortable and close to the routes that we ride.
